Hence Cicero 'inconviently' inappropriately - rejected the mediocrity of passion - when he says "every evil although moderate should be shunned, for just as a body by a little bit of ailing is not sound, so this mean in the diseases or passions of the soul, is not sound.
For passions are not called diseases or disturbances of the soul, save when they are not controlled by reason.
I keep on applying this optimistically to sorrow - but sorrow is not "the passions in general".
